Derek Walcott, der gro\u00dfe Poet der Karibik, ist mit 87 Jahren gestorben. Ich habe ihn gern zitiert, vorwiegend aus seinem Band White Egrets<\/em> (2010), der mir immer noch unersch\u00f6pflich ist. Nun will ich ihm danken und ihm etwas nachrufen, darum ein Nachruf auf manipogo<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Walcott war auch ein gro\u00dfer Liebender, obwohl er einr\u00e4umte, er habe seine Frauen schlecht behandelt, und eine habe er sogar durch seine unsinnige Eifersucht ins Grab gebracht. Er war ein karibischer Mann, immer unter Druck, seine M\u00e4nnlichkeit zu beweisen; seine Poesie war aber auch ein einziger Liebesbeweis, gerichtet an das Leben. (Die Karibik-Bilder sind von J\u00fcrgen Kuntke, den ich nicht erreichen konnte; ich glaube aber, dass er nichts dagegen hat, diesen Beitrag zu illustrieren.<\/em>)<\/p>\n

Schwatzende M\u00e4dchen, die fr\u00fchreifen Sirenen, und eine bleibt auf Capri stehen an einer T\u00fcr, Proserpina (die Toteng\u00f6ttin) am Eingang zum Fr\u00fchling, und in Amsterdam gleiten M\u00e4dchen auf R\u00e4dern vor\u00fcber.<\/p>\n

By the open-air table where I sat alone
\na flock of chattering girls passed, premature sirens
\nfleeing like pipers from the sudden thought of a stone. <\/em><\/p>\n

Capri:<\/p>\n

\u2026 and the women, the women! Hard to
\nsee them as that only, that one, for instance,
\npaused at a shop door in shades, at a glance,
\njust a tanned girl or Proserpine at spring\u2019s portal.<\/em><\/p>\n

In Amsterdam, wo er an seine Mutter denkt, Alix Marlin, eine junge Witwe:<\/p>\n

Der letzte Seufzer der Befreiung. Dann war er da. Und f\u00fcr mich bleibt die Hoffnung, es zu erreichen, dass meine manipogo<\/em>-Prosa manchmal nach einem Regenguss riecht, der aus den H\u00fcgeln Jamaikas auf hei\u00dfen Asphalt f\u00e4llt, in Walcotts Vorstellung. Dass sie<\/p>\n

has the sudden smell of a gusts of slanted rain
