Die Chedis mit ihren Spitzt\u00fcrmchen sind nicht zug\u00e4nglich; sie enthalten meist Reliquien. Auch andere T\u00fcrme weisen in den Himmel, den die Buddhisten zwar nicht kennen, doch erinnern sie zwangsl\u00e4ufig an gotische Kathedralen. Irgendwo dort oben, weit entfernt, stellt man sich vielleicht das Nirwana vor, das gl\u00fcckselige Reich. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Eine ber\u00fchmte Tempelanlage in Chiang Mai liegt oben auf dem Berg und bietet eine grandiose Sicht auf die Stadt. In anderen Anlagen kann man \u00fcber Treppen T\u00fcrme erklimmen und hinabschauen. Die Treppen symbolisieren wom\u00f6glich den Weg, den Buddha preist: den achtfachen Pfad und die vier Weisheiten. Sie zu verinnerlichen erfordert Anstrengung und Selbstkontrolle; nicht nur das Bild des Flusses, an dessen anderem Ufer Nirwana winkt, ist hilfreich, sndern ebensogut die Treppe, die einen emportr\u00e4gt zum G\u00f6ttlichen.\u00a0 Die Seele will sich mit ihm vereinigen, das wird in der buddhistischen Lehre durchaus erw\u00e4hnt.
