In manchen Gegenden bedeutet die Frage \u00abHast du heute schon Reis gegessen?\u00ab, dass man sich nach dem Befinden des Gegen\u00fcber erkundigt: Geht&#8217;s dir gut? <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Da stellte ich mir die Frage: Was a\u00dfen die Europ\u00e4er vor der Kartoffel, die ja erst vor 500 Jahren in S\u00fcdamerika entdeckt und hierher importiert wurde? Im Mittelalter a\u00df man meistens Brot aus Getreide, dazu Gem\u00fcse oder Bohnen. Die italienischen Reisfelder sind am Po angesiedelt. Das ist ein beliebtes Dessert. Es ist s\u00fc\u00dfer Reis, angemacht mit Kokosmilch, der, wie der Name sagt, klebrig ist. <em>K<\/em><i>hao niao<\/i> nennen ihn die Thail\u00e4nder, bei uns hei\u00dft er tats\u00e4chlich Klebreis. Der herk\u00f6mmliche Reis ist der <em>Steamy Rice<\/em>, der in Dampf oder hei\u00dfem Wasser quillt. Er begleitet alle Gerichte und vornehmlich die Currys, die ja fl\u00fcssig sind (Red Curry, Green Curry) und eine Substanz zum Aufsaugen brauchen. \u2013 Ich kaufe im Fairtrade-Laden der Caritas in Heitersheim gern Reis von thail\u00e4ndischen Kleinbauern, der Hom Mali hei\u00dft. So esse ich auch hier jeden Abend Reis aus Thailand. Das Land ist \u00fcbrigens der sechstgr\u00f6\u00dfte Reisexporteur und erntete (2007) 30 Millionen Tonnen.<\/p>\n<p>Bei Wikipedia lesen wir, dass die Landwirtschaft nur noch 10 Prozent des Bruttoinlandsprodukt erwitschaftet, aber dass 30 Prozent der Bev\u00f6lkerung auf dem Land arbeiten. Der Tourismus ist ein wichtiger Erwerbszweig des Landes, doch nicht alle der 72 Millionen Thail\u00e4nder profitieren davon.
